Daniel Scott

Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor

instructor

I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.

Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.

Woohoo. Uh, it is the end. It is the what? Next video. Okay. We'll cover a few little, you know, next steps after this.

But first of all, congratulations, you made it to the end. I made it to the end. What a long  course the biggest I've ever made. Uh, and yeah, I just wanna acknowledge the fact  that it is not easy to get this far for either of us. That's why I'm excited. I'm disappointed that it's the end.

We don't get to hang out as much anymore. But, uh, I'll discuss some other courses  that you might be able to do, come hang out. But first of all, celebration High five. I know that this is a camera and you're not really there,  but I can feel you on the other side. Ready? Hand up.

Hand up. Come on, I'm gonna do it. There we go. Awkward High five. Uh, let's discuss what's next now. Alright, in terms of Software next steps, what you might go  and learn with me with someone else is, so  after Figma is looking at some of  that sort of web design stuff.

So either I've got like a web design essentials, kind  of an H-T-M-L-C-S-S, some basic JavaScript  that really helps when you are working with developers,  even if you don't want to be like the, you know,  a front end design for a web design company. Just an understanding of that sort of stuff's super useful. Um, if codes scary, uh, look at my web flow course, okay? Take you through how to build, uh, kind of a no code version  of a fully functioning amazing websites. Pretty awesome tool. Um, I've got lots of other courses.

Photoshop, illustrator in Design After Effects, premier Pro,  Lightroom, there's all sorts. So, um, go check out those. If you want to join me in another  course to upskill yourself. Also follow me at Figma. Uh, I've actually only 10 minutes ago, um,  made a public profile on the Figma community. So search for my name in the community.

Daniel Walter Scott, or I am figma.com/at BYL. Okay, follow me. I follow you. I'm not sure exactly we're gonna do with it  yet, but gotta going. Let's follow each other. Another handy thing if you don't  know about Figma is that they have a conference every year,  normally around May, June, who knows when they're having it.

Now it's called config. Uh, search for that and see whether it is and sign up. There's an online version and an in-person version. Ah, that is a good thing to check out. They dump a whole bunch of cool new updates during  that period as well, as long as kind of like going  and updating as they go as well. They're pretty good that way.

And a super big thank you  to our editors and reviewers. Uh, Jason Hummels, Taylor Koman, uh, Stephen, uh,  Trevor Je, thank you so much. So much of it goes into stuff that you guys don't get to see  or you do get to see, but it seems like it's all me. But thank you team for your help. Next is to ask you for a review. Okay?

If you like the course, gimme a review. Uh, and for those of you who really loved it and have access  and you know, the ability to have a link back to my site,  uh, you know, linking to my site really helps me grow. Google loves it. It helps  People find me more. So that's my ask is if you have a chance, either via socials  or via kind of interwebs, if you can send a link to me,  amazing Figma course by Dan Scott,  you should go check it out here and just link back  to this course, that would be cool. I want to share, um,  some special stuff for bringing a laptop as well.

So if you're bringing a laptop member, which you are,  'cause you're here, um, there are some other special things. So, um, go check out the challenges. Okay? There are many UX challenges, okay? Some of them are past, and you can still do those, okay? They're still there to be done briefs.

So you can build up portfolio,  but also there's live ones that are happening all the time. Okay? So check out that there's a mixture of kind  of general design stuff and UX stuff. I'm not sure what I'm doing with my hands, but yeah. Uh, make sure you go check out the challenges on the  bring your laptop website. Small note.

If you're working in a larger team  and you're like, Hey, I wish everyone as, as good  as me now at Figma, okay? We do have group bookings. Okay? Um, so discounts for 10  or more licenses for the bring a laptop site. So reach out at this link here  or go through the contact us form, um, you know, for  agencies, for big companies, for, uh, maybe schools,  universities, anything like that. Uh, so reach out there.

Another bringer and laptop exclusive is  certificates, uh, and badges. So if you, you know, throughout the course,  if you haven't already, uh, make sure  that you watch all the videos and you  submit all the class projects. You can then apply for, uh, uh, certificate, okay? For that course takes it's manually done. So give a, give, give the team a couple of days to,  you know, go through and check everything that you've done. Um, so do that.

Okay, great for the cv. Um, the next is the merit certificate. Okay? So that's the questions throughout the, um, uh, course. Okay, then it is just help you learn  and you can get then upgrade your certificate  to a merit certificate. Uh, distinction Certificate is coming as well.

I'm not sure if it's out the recording of this video,  but that is a big long project at the end,  if it's not there, okay, you're looking  for a final distinction project in the course. If it's not there, it'll be there soon. If check out the certificates page on the bringer laptop  site, it'll be here  to go check out what's available for which courses. Exclusive for you guys at Bringer laptop. And lastly, I just wanna say a big thank you to you. You've kept me company this whole course.

Um, I know it's kind of weird with the camera  and I'm pretending you're there, but I don't,  I feel you there can feel your vibe  and you made it to the end. Uh, we're buddies now  and I just want to congratulate you on making it through  what is of, you know, a lot of your effort  and a lot of your time, and you should be congratulated. Um, so yeah, welcome to the end,  but it's, uh, kind of sad as well. It's the last of the videos. Um, we can hang out in other videos  if you wanna come join me. Uh, but for now, friends, that is it.

End of the course, fade Black.
