Alright, it's time to release your course on Udemy. So if you're new to Udemy, you need to set up an account. And let's quickly cover the why you would or would not sell on Udemy. So we've set up our own hosted site, okay? Our self-hosted site, and we're selling it there for a subscription or a one-off fee. And, uh, we're gonna also sell on Udemy.
Um, so why would you not sell on Udemy? I do sell on Udemy. I sell on my own site, Udemy and Skillshare and all the other ones. Okay? The price, the problem is pricing. So Udemy is a discount site.
So they will sell your course for $10. Okay? That's just, there is, you can say, I would like it to be $200, but if you tick the little box that says Allow you to me to sale, uh, sell your course in a sale, it means every single day it's gonna be on sale. Okay? They're, they don't not have a sale. So that's the drawback.
And it's gonna be about 10 bucks and you're not even gonna get that $10. So, lemme tell you my process. So I upload my course, I say I want it to be $200 'cause that's what I feel like it's worth, but I tick the little box and Udemy sells it for $10. Of that $10. Uh, me and Udemy go halves. So I only get $5 of that $10 that they sell.
They take five 'cause they brought the people there and I get five 'cause I made the course. But if somebody else sells it on Udemy's behalf, you get a quarter. So that $10 ends up being about $2 50. And you're like, how can you live on that? And that is a really good question. Until you see Udemy's volume, they are a huge volume kind of Walmart style operation.
Just to give you some kind of, uh, what you can do is you can check out my earnings from Udemy, go to instructor hq.com/bishop and I list out all my earnings from there. But just to give you, uh, kind of a, I guess a, a, a look into it, and it's not to show off, but like November just gone, November, 2018, uh, I made $65,000 on Udemy selling kind of $2 50 a lots. So it's not to impress you, and I don't imagine you're gonna get to that, especially if you're at this stage. You're just getting started, you're gonna get $50 or a hundred dollars okay? Uh, a month. But yeah, I'm stu it's almost getting close to Stu.
Yeah, it's hitting in the right, it's hitting in a pretty crazy direction, right? And they're all sold at those really cheap prices. I haven't met another Udemy sales, uh, um, instructor who have unticked the sales and promotion and made any meaningful money. So you want, say I want it to be $50, so you untick it and you force Udemy to sell it at 50. Crickets has been my experience and this might change, and you might find somebody out there in the world of the internet that has made it work, and that's totally cool. But just know that if you upload a Udemy, it's gonna be sold at a discount.
So it might, as far as your strategy goes, you might have to say, I gonna sell to my own pri own site at a higher price and Udemy's gonna be a discount site, okay? And often those two audiences won't, won't meet each other, okay? And you can, You can keep those going or you might decide to go for, uh, a lower cost and try and go for volume across all different platforms, including Skillshare, Udemy, Subu, skill Success. Those are the ones I can name your own site. Okay? So decide whether you're gonna go on Udemy.
If you are, sign up, get an account, create a course, upload it using their bulk uploader. That saves some time when you're uploading lots of videos, one by one can be painful. You use the same, the same kind of process you did for the Self-hosted site. So you use the long names, the keyword rich names for the names. You upload your intro video and you go through their process of uploading of course. So get it ready and get ready to launch.
All right? I'll see you in the next video where we launch.
