Starting from Scratch

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to start with an existing image to use generative AI in Photoshop. You can open a new document and use the generative fill feature to create entirely new compositions from scratch. Simply select the area you want to fill, type in your desired subject or theme, and let Photoshop work its magic.

You can start a project from a clean artboard and generate the content you need as you go.

 The "Do Nothing" Feature

Sometimes, less is more. With the "do nothing" feature, you can use generative AI to create empty fills that mimic the effects of tools like the Clone Stamp or Content-Aware Fill. Whether you're removing unwanted objects from a photo or filling in gaps in a design, this technique is a game-changer.

If you “do nothing”, Photoshop will read your image and fill the gap in context.

Blending Images

Instead of trying to recreate complex elements from scratch, why not blend existing images together? With generative AI, you can easily replace backgrounds, skies, or other elements of your design without the need for extensive manual editing. Simply select the areas you want to blend, apply the generative fill, and watch as Photoshop seamlessly merges the two images together. Want to learn more? Check out this post for a step-by-step guide to blending images with generative AI.

You can blend two different images with Generative AI. Both of them must be selected before generating new content.

Preserve Key Features

When using generative AI to manipulate images, it's important to preserve key features that define your subject. Whether it's a person's face, a product, or a specific element of your design, use the "do not touch" option to protect these features from being altered. This ensures that your designs remain true to your original vision while still benefiting from the power of generative AI.
