Daniel Scott
Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor
I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.
Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.

I've got printed notes that you can use, uh, throughout this course. Take your own notes. If you're old school, wanna write stuff down on paper. Um, I'll jump into the screen now and show you where you Download those. Alright. To download the workbook, it's free, go to bring your own laptop.com, click on this resources tab, along the top navigation.
Then you'll find it in here under this recent posts or under this Photoshop tab. Okay. Give it a click and then click here. It says, download high res PDF, and that'll get you the PDF. You can download, it's free, print it off. It's for the people who love to kind of make notes as they're going through.
Alright, two more things we'll do before we get started, just so that we're all following along the same is we need to change our units of measurement. We're gonna use pixels in this class. So to change that, we're going to go to, I'm on a Mac here. So we go to Photoshop, cc preferences come down to units and rulers. Okay? Click on that.
If you're on a pc, go up to edit. Okay? And come all the way down the bottom here and you'll see your preferences. And once you find that, find that units and rulers. Alright? Once you've done it, just under here it says rulers, change it to pixels.
Okay? You can change it back afterwards, but let's just make sure we're all looking at the same thing. Once you've done that, click okay. The other thing you're gonna do is just to make sure our workspace looks the same. If we go a window, go to workspace and just make sure it's set to essentials. Okay?
If it's not, got the little techniques to it, click it again. Okay? And the other thing we're gonna do is reset the essentials just so that it all looks the same. So if all the panels aren't mixed up, easy stuff. Let's get now started with all the fun stuff.
