Join Dan Scott for a hands-on introduction to Affinity’s Pixel, Vector & Layout suite, where you’ll learn how to work across photo editing, vector design, and desktop publishing without jumping between separate apps. Affinity is a powerful design suite from Canva that combines pixel, vector, and layout tools in one seamless workflow. But is it powerful enough to take on Adobe? Yes, yes it is. Learn it yourself through real-world projects like social posts, logos, posters, business cards, packaging mockups, and interactive PDFs, while getting a clear feel for when to use Pixel, Vector, and Layout tools. With Affinity now free to use, it’s easy to jump in and start creating right away!
Together with Dan, you’ll learn how to:
- Understand core principles of design, photo editing & desktop publishing
- Create matching visual branding for both print and screens
- Clean up and blend photos quickly like a pro
- Lay out multi-page projects that look clean and balanced
- Stop worrying about print mistakes, weird colors, or blurry files
- Feel totally confident tackling any creative project from scratch!
Along the way you'll get a few fun surprises too, like using AI to kickstart your ideas, turning rough hand-drawn sketches into clean vector art, and building out effects and typography tricks you can drop straight into your own portfolio. If you’re coming from a Photoshop or Illustrator background and worried Affinity will feel unfamiliar, don’t be. You’ll quickly see how the workflows line up and where Affinity actually makes things faster.
No prior Affinity experience needed either. We’ll start right at the beginning and work through everything step by step. This course is also for anyone who’s dabbled in Affinity but knows there’s a lot more power under the hood and wants a clear path from “I can find the tools” to “I actually know what I’m doing.” So fire up Affinity, get comfortable, and let's go turn you into an Affinity superhero (cape optional).

Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor
I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.
Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.
