Frequently asked questions

We've answered some common questions below but we're always here to help!

Graphic design is important because it visually communicates ideas, messages, and information in a way that is both effective and appealing. Imagine if your favorite sports team had no logo, no website, no signage, no labels? Wouldn’t be very exciting, would it? Graphic design helps both businesses and individuals communicate their brand identity, enhance the experience of their users and also communicates complex information more clearly and memorably. Well done graphic design can evoke emotions, influence perceptions, and drive actions, making it an essential tool for marketing, communication, and overall visual storytelling in today's visually-driven world.

A graphic designer’s portfolio showcases not only their best work but also their thought process, their ability to follow a brief and their relationship with clients and collaborators. It is a clear demonstration of experience, ability and style and provides valuable insight to prospective employers or clients.

To make a graphic design portfolio, choose a platform to host your portfolio, select a template or layout, and choose which samples of your work you would like to include along with context about the work. You may also wish to include a personal bio and your contact information so interested clients or prospective employers can reach you.
Typography in graphic design refers to the technique of arranging typefaces (fonts), letterforms, and text elements to convey a message in an aesthetically pleasing and effective manner. Typography involves choosing appropriate fonts, adjusting spacing and alignment, and considering factors like readability, hierarchy, and visual impact. Typography plays an important role in influencing how information is perceived and understood by an audience. For example, the typography you would use in a poster for a horror movie is very different from the typography you would use on a sign for a doctor’s office.
All memberships unlock unlimited access to 30+ beginner and advanced courses. Study at your own pace and take as many courses as you like! You’ll also have access to personalised support, student community and regular design challenges.
We have some free lessons in each course for you to watch and get a feel for the course content and teaching style! Just look out for the ‘FREE’ label next to the lesson titles in the contents list for each course.
Our courses are only available by becoming a member and aren’t available individually.
We recommend taking the Essentials courses before moving onto Advanced (E.g. taking Illustrator Essentials before taking Illustrator Advanced) especially if you’re new to the app or software. If you’re self taught or have used the software for a long time we still recommend watching the Essentials course as many of our students are surprised at how many new things they learn here!
