The purpose of the Bring Your Own Laptop Community is to provide a sharing and supportive space that allows creatives of all skill levels to learn and grow together.
Our community core values are Ownership, Humility, and Creativity, and they guide everything we do at BYOL. In practice, this means:
- Taking ownership of your work and learning
- Staying humble when sharing and exploring with openness
- Pursuing your creativity without limits
To help bring these values to life, we ask that you follow the guidelines below when interacting with others.
General Behaviour Guidelines
- Treat others online as you would treat them in real life.
- Keep an open mind and communicate with courtesy and respect.
- Ask questions and be constructive when giving feedback – we’re all here to learn.
- Be tolerant of different viewpoints; respectfully disagree when opinions don’t align.
- You can share your work for feedback, but not to promote yourself or find clients.
- Any bullying, inflammatory remarks, profanity, prejudiced comments, or unauthorised sharing of private content could result in your BYOL account being terminated immediately.
Let’s be kind to one another.
Forum Guidelines
-
Search before posting
Someone may have already asked the same question or shared a similar tip. A quick search helps reduce clutter and makes knowledge easier to find. -
Stay on topic
Keep replies relevant to the original post. If your conversation drifts, start a new thread. -
Use clear, descriptive titles
A good title helps others quickly understand what you need and improves searchability for everyone. -
Tag wisely
Use the appropriate tags to help others discover your post and to make content easier to navigate. -
Avoid duplicate posts
Posting the same message in multiple threads or areas won’t get your question answered faster, it just creates confusion. -
Respect privacy and boundaries
Don’t share someone else’s work, private messages, or personal information without their clear permission, even if it was shared during a livestream or class. -
Use your real name and photo where possible
We’re a real community of learners. Showing up as yourself helps foster trust and connection.
Moderation and Reporting
If you come across content or behaviour that feels off - spam, inappropriate posts, or anything that goes against our values - please use the report feature to let us know. Our team is here to help keep this space safe, welcoming, and productive for everyone.
