Branched Oak Letterpress Studio Brochure The Core Concept: Mechanical Authenticity Meets Chic Luxury The objective for the Branched Oak tri-fold brochure was to translate the physical, tactile experience of traditional letterpress printing into a flat, two-dimensional layout. The design avoids vintage clichés, instead positioning the studio as a premium, editorial, and highly precise modern brand. Color & Contrast Cotton Cream Foundation: We stripped away heavy background colors in favor of a warm, bright cream. This vast negative space acts as a gallery wall, mimicking the high-end, textured cotton rag paper used in the studio. Press-Run Indigo Wash: To create dramatic, chic contrast, the macro photography of the metal type is treated with a deep indigo overlay. This preserves the tactile mood of the metal while ensuring perfect legibility for the "knockout" text floating above it. Copper Cylinder Accents: We utilized a metallic copper tone sparingly to signify the luxury finishing of hot foil stamping. Structural & Graphic Motifs The Cylinder Arc: The defining graphic of the front cover and inside-left panel is a single, massive geometric arc. Rather than a hand-drawn line, this perfect curve represents the sweeping, mechanical rotation of the printing press cylinder. Registration Marks: Floating crosshair target icons are used strategically across the layout (as panel anchors and list bullets). This subliminally reinforces the exact, millimeter-perfect precision required in traditional relief printing. Typographic Hierarchy Hero Serif: Argent CF is utilized for massive, high-contrast display titles, giving the piece the authoritative feel of a high-end magazine cover. Utility Sans-Serif: Raleway provides a clean, modern contrast for all body copy and subheads, heavily tracked out to give the letterforms elegant breathing room. Layout Strategy The brochure thrives on architectural negative space. By deliberately removing redundant logos and cluttered maps, the layout forces the reader to focus entirely on the craftsmanship, the typography, and the tactile imagery. The resulting collateral feels less like a corporate handout and more like a bespoke piece of stationery.

Instructor, Graphic Designer & Creator

I’m a camera-slinging design geek and all-around Adobe nerd, and teaching has always been at the heart of what I do. For more than 20 years, I’ve been sharing inspiration and know-how with creatives around the world.

I’ve authored several books, created oodles of online courses, and provided customised training for clients big and small across photography, design, software, business strategy, and creative workflow.

My goal is to make creative tools and processes feel approachable, practical, and genuinely useful - whether I’m teaching online, working directly with a client, or presenting at creative industry events.

When I’m not teaching, speaking, or making futile attempts to reclaim hard drive space, I’m usually plotting my next craft project, maintaining my Wordle streak, searching the sofa cushions for a runaway Wacom pen, or trying to remember where I left my phone!
