Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor

instructor

I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.

Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.

Downloads & Exercise files

Transcript

So you're in. Uh, first thing you need to do is download  the exercise files, okay? There'll be a link on this page. Download them. Uh, within those exercise files,  I've given you a little workbook, okay? A little PDF, uh,  that you can print off throughout the court.

There's what the shape is. I'm not sure  what I'm drawing it in the air, but it's a workbook. Okay, print it off. If you're a note taker, you can keep the notes  right on them, okay? Uh, it's in the exercise files, you'll see it in there. Um, the other thing we need to do is we need  to reset our workspace.

So we're gonna do that right now. We're gonna dive into the computer. I'll see it in there. Alright, so I've opened up Photoshop  and we're going to reset our workspace so  that yours looks like mine. Let's just open up a file though to get started. Go to file, go to open, and you end up at cloud documents.

Potentially, uh,  depends on if you've been using this before or not. Um, you're gonna go to the my computer, okay. Cloud documents we'll talk about later on,  but we want the stuff that's actually,  I've downloaded onto my computer  and I've put mine on my desktop. There's my folder that I've downloaded. And here we're gonna open up image one and just click open. Now I've already reset my workspace,  so yours might look like mine  already if yours doesn't though.

Or let's just do it all together. So we're looking the same. Let's go a window workspace. Make sure it says a little tick next to Essentials. If it's not, click it and then come back into here  and go to Reset Essentials. So it kind of just rejig everything, gets it back  to yours looking like mine.

You might totally ignore that  because you've got a sweet setup. That's okay. But that's it for this video. Simple. We've got the files downloaded. There is a workbook in the exercise files  and we have reset our workspace.

Where's the workbook? Uh, if you check out your files there,  these exercise files, and that's this PDF in here. Open that up, print it off  and you can work through, take notes if you like. Alright, that's it. Let's get onto the next video.
