Daniel Scott
Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor
I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3βs. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create βartβ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.
Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.

I'm gonna show you how far you can go before it goes very badly. I'd say there's not even there that badly, but, uh, we're gonna stick to like just little bits. You can get like an extra 20 to 50%, but not one zillion. All right? Let's work out how to do that now in Photoshop. All right, to get started, let's zoom out a little bit.
Uh, command minus on a mac or control minus on a pc. Uh, let's have a look at the crop tool. So I'm gonna grab the crop tool and the magic's gonna happen is I want to turn content aware on and I want to turn delete crock pixels off. So this is the main one that I want on. And you're like, it's gray out, it's not working. I already started this video a second ago and I'm like, huh, I've worked it out.
In the interim is you need to select on a layer. You need to say, this is the layer that I'm gonna be magic in more background on. Alright, so I've got it selected. I know it's 'cause it's kind of a lighter gray and now I can do this one. Okay? And nothing really happens.
You just need to decide how big you want it. Now this is where you've gotta be, um, uh, patient. No, uh, I can't, I can't even think of the word. Uh, not too greedy. 'cause if you, if I try and magic up this, we'll do it in a second, eh, but the one I want is I just want a bit more, right? Because we all run into those problems, right?
When we're trying to like, uh, we've got a nice cropped image from a photographer and you're like, no, I need lots of background to put like ads and logos and text and stuff. So this is what we can do. So drag it out from the edges roughly like I've got hit. Make sure that's on and either hit return on your keyboard or enter or hit this little ticky box. All right? Ready?
City. Yours will be faster than mine and cool. Huh? If you are still copying and pasting and clone tool stamping, you will do probably a little happy jump flip thing. I'm happy every time I see it and I teach it all the time. All right, I'm gonna turn it off just 'cause next time I'm gonna use it, I probably just want to crop it.
Uh, what does it look like if I go full noise? I'll skip ahead. All right, here we go. And it is not bad. It is not bad at all, but that's not what we want. I'm gonna go back to my original one.
All right, there we go. More manageable. That's gonna work for us 'cause there's lots of area for extra stuff and things and we're removed our stick. Alright, let's jump into the next video.
