Daniel Scott
Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor
instructorI discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.
Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.
We’re awarding certificates for this course!

Hi everyone, in this video I'm going to show you...
how to add to a Repeat Grid after you've made it...
and also some of the issues that happens...
when you're kind of like, "Hey, I want to make it bigger...
but oh, it's all cut off, why is it cut off, I wanted to get bigger"...
that is what I'm going to show you next in Adobe XD.
All right, the first one is easy...
let's say I want to add this little number after these stars...
it's not currently in there now...
so what you can do is you can get into position...
it doesn't have to be in position, but I'm going to.
I'm going to cut it, so I'm going to go to 'Edit', 'Cut'...
I'm going to double click to go inside...
just have anything selected in here, doesn't matter which it is...
and then just hit 'Paste', and then it goes in...
you can see it's on all of them.
So that's how to add something else to it...
I'm going to use my arrow key just to tap it around.
The other thing I wanted to, well, the problem you might run into...
is you want to extend this, the white background...
making it-- smaller is easier, but I want to make it bigger...
if you make it bigger you're like...
"Oh, I just want to make it a little bit bigger...
I want to move it over there," and you're like...
there's all this, like, can you see, it's cropped off the edge here...
let's make it a-- actually, making it color won't help...
but you get the idea.
You can see, gets cropped off that side...
if I make it bigger that side, it's stuck in...
this Repeat Grid kind of border here, and if I extend it out, I'm like...
okay, I'll just click on it, there we go, click on it once, there's my edge.
I'm just going to drag it bigger...
you're like, "Huh, it's not quite what I wanted."
So what you end up doing-- I'm going to undo before I wreck it...
so it doesn't really matter if you do this before or after...
stretch it before, after, I'm going to do it afterwards.
So all you need to do is make it-- man, mine's long...
you need to be able to see that handle, where is it, on it, be out...
click it once, there you go, there's that handle.
So if I make this handle bigger...
you just need to stretch this over first, give yourself a bit of space...
then make this bigger...
and then drag this back...
maybe click off, click back on it, and get rid of that again.
So it gives you a bit more space, happens a lot for me...
when I go from like desktop to mobile...
you copy this, and I go to my desktop view, and I got more space...
so I get to kind of make things a different size.
So just make it bigger, give yourself a gap, then extend that out...
and then we can extend that out, and then come back to here...
shrink it back in, there you go...
updating and also, just some little updates if you--
well, fixing the edge, if you do need to make it bigger.
Sometimes though-- let's just-- instead of doing any of that...
sometimes trying to adjust this thing afterwards...
can be quite complicated, depending on what you've got ...
sometimes you just select it, go 'Ungroup Grid'...
and just go, you guys are all gone...
where are you, all gone, and just start again...
and just start Repeat Grid with the new size, and you're away again...
you're going to have to update these things...
but sometimes just ungroup it and start again might be easier.
All right, that is it for the video, my friend...
I will see you in the next one.
