Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor

instructor

I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.

Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.

One of the other nice things you can do when you are  working with your Layers panel  and you're trying to get things ready to send out  to your designer or developer, you might find lots of times  where you've got lots of things called just rectangle one  or type one or box two, okay? And they're not really that useful for the developer. So what you can do is let's go down to say our icons,  which is our services, okay? I'm gonna open that up and say you wanna start naming these? Say Icon one, three and two. Okay, so there's a video photography and our app, okay?

And we'll go down, we'll do the last one down here. Actually, we'll drag him up for the moment. Let's get him up to be with his friends. Okay? So what we can do is a nice little option for naming things. Otherwise you gotta double click everything, get into it,  and then you can spend ages doing it.

So the way to do this is to tab between them. So I'm gonna double click this one. Gonna call this one Icon hyphen,  and I'm gonna call this one video  and then I'm gonna tab down. You can see Icon Photography, rather than having  to click on every single one to get it to work. You can just tab between them. Okay?

So Icon hyphen, this one's gonna be called App  and this one's gonna be called Icon Hyphen Print. Alright, nice little shortcut for naming your layers.
