I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.

Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.

Hi, my name is Dan, and now  that we're finishing our website, I'm gonna show you some  of the other built-in features in Dreamweaver,  because you can't really jump into some of these templates,  um, that I'm gonna show you now  until you really understand Bootstrap and what it's around. So now that you've got those skills, you might,  when you are starting your own personal website  and not following along with me, what you might do is go  through and start with one of the templates I never do  because I'm, I get a bit picky about I wanting things  to exactly match my, um, Photoshop mockup,  but that might not worry you as much. So what you can do is you can go to Bootstrap  and there's one that says a prebuilt layout. Okay? That'll give you a kind of just a basic starting point  with a prebuilt layout, okay? There's a bunch of things in here that you could then go off  and start deleting and removing,  but you can see if you start life like this,  it's gonna be quite tough to know what everything does.

But now that we've done it a bit, it wouldn't be too hard  to go through and start adjusting bits, making boxes,  bigger, smaller, different media queries. Okay? So you could start this way. Um, another thing you can do,  as I'm gonna close this is you can go to file new,  and over here on this left hand side,  there's some starter templates,  and we're gonna start with some bootstrap templates. And you can see there's an agency one,  an e-Commerce one portfolio product. Okay?

There's some basic ones in here. Now, there's some responsive ones as well. These are the ones you really wanna start with, bootstrap. Now, this will change over time, I'm sure  with the new versions of, uh, Dreamweaver,  there'll be different ones applied in here. So we're gonna start with say the, uh, portfolio one  or a product one, okay? And click create.

And now that we understand  how Dreamweaver works, we could then maybe start here  and start messing around with it and start adding  and switching this out, this image out  with our own images such switching the text out,  and it's kind of started most of the work for us. Now that we understand how Bootstrap works,  it won't be such a big deal to go through and start amending  and adjusting and pulling apart and updating. So if you're like me and you like  to design everything from scratch,  you can start like I did in the beginning of this tutorial. But if you wanna start quickly, start  with somebody else's template  and customize it for your own needs, it's easy to use some  of these starter templates. All right. That'll be it for this video.
