Overview

UI design skills are one of the most employable opportunities of our lifetime. In this course you’ll learn how to design a professional website in Adobe Illustrator. We’ll start right at the basics of Illustrator and work our way through to building professional UI designs. This course doesn’t cover how to code a website but focuses on the design processes that professional UI designers use when working.

This is a project based class for students who are new to the world of app & web design. I created this for people nervous about changing their careers into the world of user interface design.

We’ll build a professional portfolio website. You can use this course to build your own portfolio website (the one you’ve been putting off for years). You’ll learn how to design desktop, tablet and mobile versions of your website. You’ll learn what you’ll need to deliver at the end of a project to your client.

This course is for people serious about becoming a User Interface design professional.

Know that I’ll be around to help - if you get lost you can drop a post on the video 'Questions and Answers' below each video and I'll be sure to get back to you.

Founder of Bring Your Own Laptop & Chief Instructor

instructor

I discovered the world of design as an art student when I stumbled upon a lab full of green & blue iMac G3’s. My initial curiosity around using the computer to create ‘art’ developed into a full-blown passion, eventually leading me to become a digital designer and founder of Bring Your Own Laptop.

Sharing and teaching are a huge part of who I am. As a certified Adobe instructor, I've had the honor of winning multiple Adobe teaching awards at their annual MAX conference. I see Bring Your Own Laptop as the supportive community I wished for when I was first starting out and intimidated by design. Through teaching, I hope to bring others along for the ride and empower my students to bring their stories, labors of love, and art into the world.
True to my Kiwi roots, I've lived in many places, and currently, I reside in Ireland with my wife and kids.

Okay, so next steps after the course. Um, other things you can do is you might move into more  of a UX approach to design. Okay? So we've done all the UI design and illustrator  and to add a level interactivity,  you can look at something called Adobe XD  or Experience Designer. That's a way of adding, okay,  'cause we've got, kinda got flats at the moment. You can take those flats  and make them clickable to jump to different pages,  prototype and app through the actual phone.

Okay? So Adobe XD is a great next step  for you to check out my course. It's called UI Design, UI and Web Design using Adobe xd. Um, other tools or things you might use is Photoshop. Okay. Photoshop for web design is another course that I've got.

Um, and it's just, I guess another feather in your cap in  terms of being a UI designer. Um, the other part you might go down is you might go down  the whole web design process. So not just designing it, kind of designing visuals,  but actually building the site out using H tm L and CSS. So check out my Dreamweaver courses on, uh, yeah,  there's a few different ones. Um, there's ones that are kind of more design side,  and then there's one that's more coding side. So check out those ones.

Um, another option you might go down is the  whole UX experience. So we've talked about UI and briefly what UX is  and the difference between user interface  and user experience design. But I've got a course, um, completely on how  to become a UX designer. So check that one out if you want  to get into a bit more UX design  or at least understand what it is. Um, yeah, that's going to be it. Uh, thanks for watching.

I'm never sure what to do at the end of these. I just kind of mumble along. Mumble, mumble. Bye now.
