Hi everyone, in this video we are going to look at what happens... when somebody updates a library that we are using... how do we go and review the updates, before we commit to them... we get to here where we can do a side-by-side comparison... very clear what's changed... or we can do this, cool, like little overlay...
where we could say, let's see the difference... it's very clear, now we're going to update... all right, let me show you how to get in there and use it. All right, so I got two files, this is the file that's creating my library... and this is a file that's going to be using my library... so I'm going to grab a couple of components from that library, great...
I'm using it, but then some updates come along... so back to the original file, let's make some small updates... so from 8 to 16 extra pixels on the padding... this one here will change quite a bit... all right, changed it a lot, remember the shortcut for changing the weight... just a reminder, 'Command Option', and use the '>' and '<'...
that's 'Ctrl Alt', '>' or '<'. So I've made some changes, I'm going to publish it... remember, 'Option 3', or 'Alt 3' on a PC... let's publish those changes and let's see what happens over here... like normal, we get our updates available... we can go to Review, instead of updating them all...
the interesting bit is, instead of clicking this click on this little arrow here... you end up in the Comparison view, so not that, that... I'm going to show you how to get to that individually... instead of doing every single one... because you're like, "Man, I need to work through these step-by-step... to see what the updates are," and how much they affect me.
So what you can do is, let's work on the blue button... and you can see, I can update these individually... there's an update available for this, great, I'm going to click on it... instead of updating the instance I'm going to review the update... and this is handy, you can see, Current, Updated... and I can say, "Yeah, I want that." Let's look at the next component...
the problem with this is, it looks exactly the same... you're like, "Has anything changed?" So what we can do is we can switch from Side By Side here to Overlay... and you can turn the Overlay on and off, on and off, and nothing has changed... did I change anything? I swear I did... oh, you can see it over there...
look, the padding's there but it's not in this, oh man... oh, let's just update and see what happens... I've done this loads, and it works every time... and I've even demoed this video... this is about the third time I've recorded it... to try and get a bit of good flow going...
but some reason today it's not working... update, let's go have a look, it got bigger, that was weird, huh... normally it just shows you the padding... and the whole excuse of this was to show you... that the overlay is handy to see when it's just really small changes, like padding... but for some reason it didn't work there.
I'm going to leave this in the course because sometimes it happens... I'm going to close down Figma, open it back up... and jump straight back to that screen... to see if it works again, you wait there. So I've gone back and changed it back to 8 from 16, let's publish it again... publish that one change, and let's have a look over here...
there's an update, we can review it, we'll go the other way... instead of hitting Update click on the arrow... and let's do Overlay, and now it's working, look. So it's given me a little bit clearer idea about what the change is... it could be just the pixel, and you'd be like... "There's no way in this view to go, there's a pixel change"...
you can kind of see it there now that it's obvious... but sometimes it's hard to see unless you go back and forth with this Overlay... I'm happy with that, I'm going to update it and close it down... and there you go, that is how to do some previewing... of changes that have happened to a library that you are sharing... and what happens when it just doesn't work sometimes...
close it, open it up again, good as gold... bugs like that seem to get cleared up quite a lot with Figma... like the ones that, you know, I'll go and report this now to Figma... and I bet you in a update in a month or two, that glitch will be gone... some engineer will go through and fix it... or you might be doing it yourself, you might run into it...
but now you know, turn it off, and on again, the truth to fix all technology... all right, that's it, I'll see you in the next video.
